On the 10th of December ’24, we held our Autumn meeting for MD.be members in Brussels.

Around 80 people attended: medical lab technicians, molecular and clinical biologists, bio-informaticians,... The theme of the meeting was ‘The needle in the haystack’, focusing on opportunities and challenges for detection of low abundant molecular targets. Fourteen topics were presented by people working in de MDx field during two parallel sessions. The oncology session mainly focused on MRD in hematology & pathology and ended with a short brainstorm on minimal validation criteria for MRD analysis. During the microbiology session, a variety of topics passed by, going from point-of-care panels over specific PCR tests to targeted and untargeted metagenomics. The first ring trial of the NGS microbiology working group - comparing extraction methods for microbials sequencing - was presented here as well. We can look back on a successful afternoon with interesting talks and time to meet with colleagues from the MD.be community.
